Wood Craft
Is is called wood craft?
There is a group of skills that no one really cares about any more, but that I have always wanted to be good at. I think they may be called wood craft, I am not quite sure. But anyway, they are things like tracking (animals) being silent while walking, being able to find my way when i leave a trail, being able to identify plants... The best comparison that I know of of people with these kinds of skills are Robin Hood and Aragorn. I suppose knowing this is sort of a childhood dream. I know that this sounds somewhat cheezy, but if you will bide with my romantisizm, please let me know what these things are called as a group and how I can attain them. I would really appreciate it. Thank you all.
woodcraft is a collection of skills and knowledge when taken together allow you to feel at home in the wild. they vary from place to place [ different in the mountains than say in the everglades] but share common points. knowledge might include what is save to eat, where to find water, dangers, navagation, fire building, shelter, care of yourself and your gear, rough cooking, tracking, stalking, trapping. skills with a knife/ gun, map reading, weather reading, finding trails, and other subjects. a lot of it is just paying attention to what is around you. simple stiff like looking back so you know what the trail wil look like on the way out and knowing how fast you walk. where is the sun? some of it is a mindset. you feel comfortable and at ease in the wild. a strange noise may make you more alert but not scare you into doing something stupid. its a lifetime of experence and learning that never ends.
