Resin Engines
fiber glassing engine cover?
so on this 1995 bayliner 1950 capri I'm helping a buddy repair the engine cover rotted since the company was too cheap to use pressure treated wood lol I've done this sort of repair many times building speaker boxes for boats but this time I'm stumped between using 1/2 plywood vs. pressure treated 3/8 plywood, since I will use 2 coats of fiberglass resin and cloth in the stress & corner areas would it really matter on the type of wood? I'm assuming std plywood will work best since it's going to be sealed for life anyways why would it matter to use treated?
whats your take on this boat pro's?
never heard of starboard only marine board which runs the cost up about 7 times what a sheet of plain ply runs. google didn't show up anything where do you find it?
woo hoo as I thought plain jane old plywood works, project came out nice last night just intime for labor day and soem party boating!
Resins don't penetrate the treated plywood very well, I use exterior plywood, not treated. This will most likely out live the rest of the boat, anyway.
