What is the difference between being in the US Coast Guard and Coast Guard Reserve?
Similarities - differences? What is a Reserve, does that mean you're not "active"? And what does that mean?

Also, what is the pay like for both? Is it different? Do you get a sign up bonus or anything like that?
The initial training for both is the same. Active duty (full time) and Reserve (one weekend a month, two weeks in the summer) train with each other in basic. Females in the military are expected to do the same things as the men. If you are treated differently it is wrong. You are however not allowed to be in some direct combat related jobs. The regular enlistment for active duty is 4 years active duty.....full time job, and 4 years Inactive Ready Reserve (you could get called back to active duty in an emergency. For the reserves, you will normally sign for 6 years of drilling reserve (one weekend a month, two weeks each summer) and 2 years Inactive Ready Reserve.
